Going into today’s game with Norwich City the fact remained that nobody was sure if Mesut Ozil would feature for The Gunners or not, such was the furore over his knee injury picked up playing for Germany in midweek.
But it was confirmed that he was fit on Friday, and despite some suggesting he should be rested, me included, Arsene Wenger held no quarter and fielded his strongest available outfit against Norwich City - to a quite handsome outcome.
Despite Norwich City playing some good stuff, Arsenal were by far the better team on this occasion and some of the football they played was truly sumptuous.
Indeed the opening goal has been called one of the best that Wenger has seen during his time in North London - such was the elegance of the build-up play.
But Mesut Ozil starred again. The German has been assisting goals since his move to Arsenal, but it appears today he and Olivier Giroud exchanged roles.
Ozil put away two goals in the 4-1 victory, just highlighting the fact he can do just about everything by scoring with his head - a collector’s item.
The result and performance from Ozil today was the culmination of an eventful week for the player.
Amid the injury trouble and international duty with Die Mannschaaft, he also ditched his father as his agent, replacing him with his brother.
It was also eventful on a more personal level.
It was the playmaker's 25th birthday on Tuesday, and he was inundated with well wishes from fans on the day via Twitter.
And he used Twitter today to quickly highlight his enthusiasm at the result - suggesting that the goals were a late birthday present…
4:1 against Norwich with a header from me - a late birthday present. Thanks all.— Mesut Özil (@MesutOzil1088) October 19, 2013
The good news for Arsenal fans is this; it certainly doesn’t need to be his birthday every week for Ozil to produce performances like this.
