Entrepreneur Suki Sandhu is the founder of Top 50 LGBT Business Leaders and also runs the recruitment company Audeliss. Suki is the subject of our latest 60 second interview.
How long have you been in the industry, and what is your current job title ?
Did you have a mentor and, if so, who ?
Unfortunately I didn’t. I’ve always wished there had been more LGBT business leaders to look up when I was starting out. It was one my main motivators to set up OUTstanding in Business though, so the younger generation would have visible LGBT colleagues to inspire them, so maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing.
Are you by nature a pessimist or an optimist ?
Always an optimist, and I always try to find the positive in any situation.
Which business leader do you admire the most and why ?
I really admire Lord Browne. He received a lot of criticism about not being ‘out’ when he was at BP, but by being open and vocal about the personal and professional benefits he experienced after coming out he’s since become integral to the cause of driving awareness of LGBT executives.
What's the biggest lesson you have learned in your career to date ?
To always treat everyone you encounter at work equally; from the PA to the CEO.
What's your favourite business quotation or life motto ?
'Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life'. Confucius
What's the best business book you've ever read ?
