Inter in pole position for £23 million Arsenal and Tottenham target

Lavezzi

Sky Italia have claimed that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur target Ezequiel Lavezzi is set to reunite with former boss Walter Mazzarri at Inter.

The Italian tactician took over at the Milanese giants after departing Napoli at the conclusion of last season, having seen Lavezzi sold to Paris Saint-Germain for a believed £23 million in July 2012 during his tenure at the San Paolo.

Lavezzi is reportedly now feeling the pressure of competition from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and, somewhat ironically, one-time Partenopei teammate Edinson Cavani, leading him to consider a move back to Italy in view of the World Cup, and was linked last week with both Arsenal and Tottenham.

He’s looked out of sorts this season whilst scoring just once in 16 total appearances between Ligue 1 and the Champions League, a glaring figure that leaves him the odd man out up front for coach Laurent Blanc behind the pair of other ex-Serie A standouts.

And now Sky have maintained that Mazzarri has been in constant contact with his former charge at Napoli and gained approval on a January switch to the San Siro outfit.

Lavezzi was linked with a possible return to the Italian top flight earlier this year and expressed openness to such in May, yet this month been tipped for a transfer to either Arsenal or Tottenham as the London rivals are each looking to add striker to their ranks over the winter window.

PSG are understood to be reluctant to sell the high-cost acquisition less than two years after his purchase, preferring to part ways with Jeremy Menez instead, but with new Inter owner Erick Thohir supposedly keen on making a splash in the market and Mazzarri in Milan to lure the striker, the Italian giants may have the right combination to force through a move.

Lavezzi’s Premier League suitors in turn look like they will have to come in with a massive offer in order to trump the personal allure of his former coach and convince the French champions to sell, or otherwise look elsewhere for reinforcements in attack.

Will Inter beat the north London rivals to Lavezzi's signature?
