Tottenham latest: 7 games for AVB to save job? Holtby backing

AVB Alone

Some of the key stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Thursday evening as murmurs continue about the future of AVB despite last night's 2-1 win over Fulham.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has seven games to convince the club’s board that he is the right man to lead the side according to the Evening Standard.

The report in the Standard says that results and performances must improve under the Portuguese man, and that the board believes the side should be playing more attractive football and be higher than their current standing of sixth in the Premier League table having spent £110m on players during the summer transfer window.

Spurs managed to win 2-1 at Craven Cottage last night to relieve some of the pressure on AVB, and Lewis Holtby has given his backing to the manager.

‘He bonds us together and is very close to the team. Everyone accepts him and his way of playing football. We all stick behind the gaffer and give our best for him.

‘If you go to the training ground every day, the team spirit is very high. We were all responsible for that disaster at Manchester City but the way we responded since then has been good. We have to carry on doing that.’

Holtby has said he is over the moon with his winner against Fulham last night and told the Tottenham club website that his first league goal for the club.

He said: ‘To see all the fans jumping up and down and singing my name – I still can’t believe it. I’m getting goosebumps right now. I’m delighted.
