After conceding in the seventh minute to the German champions in the previous meeting, City fell 2-0 down inside 11 minutes against Bayern this time.
It took Pep Guardiola's side just five minutes to get the ball rolling, as Dante's long pass was controlled superbly by Thomas Muller, before the German international steered a left foot shot past Joe Hart and into the corner of the goal.
After City's terrible start last time, it was imperative that Manuel Pellegrini's side got off to a good start, but their defensive woes on the road showed up yet again here.
There was barely enough time for Bayern fans to finish celebrating the first goal before Mario Gotze doubled their lead. The former Dortmund man appeared to be level with City defender Martin Demichelis, before steadying himself and placing the ball past Joe Hart.
Since Gotze's strike, City have hit a goal back through David Silva, but their defensive frailties mean Bayern will be confident of restoring their two goal lead and possibly extending it before half time. With the score 2-1, the game is finely poised, but Bayern will still be expected to run out comfortable winners.
Can City come back to win in Bavaria?
