GIF: Ex-Spurs star scores stunning long range goal for Real Madrid

Luka Modric

Not Gareth Bale - it was Croatian playmaker Luka Modric who scored a superb goal to give Real Madrid the lead in Copenhagen.

The Spanish giants have already qualified for the knockout rounds of the Champions League as winners of Group B, but that hasn't stopped their players turning on the style against the Danes.

Modric, who moved to Madrid in 2012, collected a pass from Isco 25 yards out, sold two players with a superb Cruyff turn, before whipping a right footed shot past Copenhagen goalkeeper Johan Wiland and into the back of the net.

Modric was never known for his goalscoring abilities at White Hart Lane, scoring just 17 goals in 159 games for Spurs, but had he scored more goals like this, the fee Jose Mourinho paid to Tottenham may have been even more than the £33m Daniel Levy received for the 28-year-old.
