Ashley Young made his first Manchester United start last night since October 29, the Capital One Cup game against Norwich.
He lasted 63 minutes, and had a real chance to put his name up in lights - allowing an easy chance to go begging:
It was not the only chance Young spurned, lifting another one narrowly wide minutes before. In total he had three shots on goal, but not a single one landed on target.
He was substituted after just 63 minutes, but managed to touch the ball 51 times - narrowly less than the 55 time Shinji Kagawa managed over the full 90.
Young completed 91 per cent of his passes, making one key pass, recording two successful dribbles. Clearly he was trying to make something happen, but was ineffective.
Did it sum up his United experience? Roy Keane thought so, describing his miss above as encapsuating his United career so far, 'Not good enough', the Irishman stated.
Did United fans think so, or did they see signs of promise from the winger? Here's what they had to say via Twitter:
I am against selling Ashley Young. It's the season of giving. We should just donate him. #MUFC— Manchester United (@United_Transfer) December 11, 2013
Imagine Keane played with Young and Ando and Nani he would do time. #MUFC— anthony harrison (@anthony57074649) December 10, 2013
Clean sheet. Decent second half. In what is certainly not a coincidence, played so much better once Young was taken off. #MUFC— Mikael Neville (@nevillem) December 10, 2013
For 60 min we struggled and were bad...but in the 5 min Young is off we played much better and actually scored.says everything! #MUFC— Reinhardt Grobbelaar (@ReinhardtGrobbe) December 10, 2013
Soo not classy from our fans. Young played pretty decent today. #MUFC— Rahul (@RahulBeckham) December 10, 2013
My god what a miss by Ashley Young, handed to him on a silver platter by Rooney.. Second straightforward chance he's missed now. #MUFC— Stephen Lyons (@Lyonzie_XIX) December 10, 2013
Good God, that's a terrible miss from Young. Inexcusable. #MUFC— Shah S Afzal (@perennialpurist) December 10, 2013
