If Liverpool get a top four finish, surely Suarez will stay for good?

Suarez Liverpool 2

The big concern for Liverpool fans and manager Brendan Rodgers this summer was whether the Reds could keep hold of Luis Suarez but surely with the way things are going, the league’s top scorer will stay at Anfield?

We all know the narrative of the summer saga that saw Arsenal bid £40,000,001 for Liverpool’s star striker to no avail – it led to one of the catchphrases of the season in ‘what are they smoking over there?’ coined by Liverpool owner John W Henry in the wake of the derisory bid from the Gunners.

Then their was the worry that Real Madrid would come in for the Uruguayan but, as things turned out, they had their hands full with the signing of world record transfer Gareth Bale from Tottenham.

Suarez got his head down amidst all the fuss and speculation, kept his mind focused, trained well and, crucially, stayed and since he returned from his ban at the beginning of the season, he’s been so good we’ll probably have to consider him one of the Premier League’s greatest ever players by the end of the season. He’s already scored 17 goals and made 8 assists in just 11 league appearances. That’s an average of a goal every 58 minutes and an assist every 123 minutes. No one has been able to get anywhere near him.

What’s perhaps most exciting, however, for the club and the supporters is that he really seems to be enjoying playing football – there’s been no sulking, no unsightly incidents (yet) and no hesitation or wavering over his desire and his ambition to play for the club and give his absolute best and at the moment his best and the team’s best has them very much contenders for the Premier League title and a top four finish.

There are still many games to play and many months to go but, at present, you’d have to say Liverpool look odds on to finish in the top four and may well surprise a lot of people to be in the title race – there’s absolutely no reason they can’t win the title if they play as they have been doing this term and if Suarez keeps his focus on doing what he does best.

So, if Liverpool finish in the top four as they look increasingly likely to achieve, will Suarez stay no matter who comes in for him in the summer? I say the summer because I can’t for the life of me see the club, the owner or the manager letting him go in January with their season going the way it is. Say, for example, Real Madrid offer £60 million or more in the summer, I think the club may well turn around and tell them where to stick it and, if Liverpool make the Champions League, there’s no reason Suarez would want to leave anyway, no matter who comes in for him.

Why would he leave a club that are title contenders in the best league in the world and playing in the Champions League? Those were, of course, the very reasons he supposedly wanted to leave in the summer so if those needs have now been (or will be) met at Liverpool, you’d have to expect Luis Suarez will be staying for the foreseeable future.

Do you think he'll stay if Liverpool make the top four?
