David Moyes may need to strengthen the United squad, but he is still looking to the future in his search for talent.
Adnan Januzaj's emergence this season has shown that youngsters can still have great impacts on the first team, but Moyes is concerned that 18 year old Januzaj is now the target of strong tackling, and his concerns over the winger potentially suffering an injury may lead him into the transfer market.
The need for a winger is also exacerbated by the inconsistent or poor displays so far this season from Nani, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young, with all of them strongly linked with moves away from Old Trafford. Januzaj has been the shining light out wide for the Red Devils, but relying on an 18 year old seems to be a foolish strategy - hence Moyes' glances into the transfer market.
But what's surprising is that it seems Moyes is targeting another 18 year old winger, with a move for Dinamo Bucharest's Dorin Rotariu suggested. Five goals in just 17 outings have seen him impress for the Romanian side this season, and his performances have alerted United as they look to build for the future.
A left footed playmaker who can play on the flanks or behind the striker, Rotariu will be compared to Januzaj, but his progression to stardom may not be as dramatic as the current United star's has been. The step up from the Romanian Premier League to the top division in England is one that may take time to adjust to, but being just 18, there is plenty of time for him to adjust.
The latest rumours make grim reading for fellow youngster Wilfried Zaha, with the former Crystal Palace winger already struggling to make an impact at Old Trafford. A loan move looks likely for Zaha, particularly if United land another young winger.
Do United need another young winger? Should they be looking for someone who can make an instant impact?
