The dust continues to settle after Spurs took the decision to sack Andre Villas-Boas, with a number of rumours and storylines still swirling around in the aftermath. Tim Sherwood took charge of the team in their 2-1 Capital One Cup loss to West Ham on Wednesday night, and the former Spurs midfielder believes he is the right man to succeed former Chelsea boss Villas-Boas, but acknowledges that the board will make the decision in the coming weeks.

“I know all about the football club, I've played here - it is my club,” said Sherwood. “I know what the supporters want and I know what they demand. I know the players who we have got here, I know the good young talent that's coming through the club."

“The club and the manager have to be compatible, it's not always about the biggest name, you might do well at another club, but you might not do well at this one. If it was down to me I'm getting a 10-year contract now. But football doesn't work like that, it's all about getting results.”

The man who brought Sherwood to White Hart Lane in a coaching capacity, Harry Redknapp, has had his say on the managerial situation at his former club, saying that the board shouldn't be blamed for Villas-Boas' inability to improve the team that he left 18 months ago.

"You can't blame the club, with the amount of money they've spent on players. Unfortunately [Villas-Boas] bought a lot of players in that haven't improved the team. Whether he bought them or the sporting director did, who knows what goes on. They haven't improved the team enough. But they still have enough quality to finish in the top four."

One potential replacement for Villas-Boas is FC Basel manager Murat Yakin, and Swiss website Blick have reported that Spurs technical director Franco Baldini first approached 39 year old Yakin almost a month ago, prompting speculation that those in charge of the North London club had lost faith in Villas-Boas some time ago. Baldini attended Basel's game against Chelsea - which they won 1-0 - and it's believed that the first approach was made during his trip to Switzerland.

Can Yakin improve on AVB's work? Should Sherwood be given the role permanently? Is Redknapp right in his view on Villas-Boas?
