Gonzalo Higuain has had an excellent first half of the season at Napoli and according to The Sun he has attracted the interest of Chelsea.
Jose Mourinho worked with Higuain at Real Madrid and is believed to be an admirer of the Argentine marksman.
Chelsea are expected to spend some money in the transfer window to bring in reinforcements for their title challenge and Mourinho is known to have strong links in Italy.
The Sun claims that Roman Abramovich is willing to provide Mourinho with the funds he needs to sign Higuain, believed to be around £48m.
Napoli paid just under £35m for Higuain last summer and could be persuaded to turn a quick profit, which could be invested in a host of new faces.
The Partenopei are set to enter the market themselves having seen their Champions League campaign snuffed out and their Scudetto challenge damaged by a slump.
President Aurelio De Laurentiis has declared that he has money at his disposal but he may consider trading in Higuain and providing Rafa Benitez with a vast budget.
Higuain netted four times in Napoli's Champions League campaign despite competing in a tough group with Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and Marseille and has nine Serie A goals to his name.
Should Chelsea sign Higuain?
