A select round-up of transfer news relating to Tottenham Hotspur…
It is no surprise really, considering how much Tottenham spent in the summer, but it is being reported that new Spurs boss Tim Sherwood will have minimal funds available in January.
For that reason, he is being tipped to sell before he buys, with the Mirror reporting that Jermain Defoe and Kyle Naughton are the most likely departures.
They have decided the duo could leave for a combined total of £10million, which Spurs will then flash in the direction of West Bromwich Albion in an attempt to sign their striker Shane Long.
If Sherwood wants additional funds, he is likely to need to sell more of Tottenham’s considerable squad, and the Telegraph is reporting that Real Madrid are looking suggestively in the direction of Paulinho.
The Brazilian only arrived in the summer and the possibility of selling him so soon is bizarre in the extreme. But the report claims Carlo Ancelotti is a big fan of the midfielder and may wait until the summer to make a bid.
At that point, it will be up to Sherwood – or whoever is in charge of Tottenham then – to decide if the player remains vital to their plans.
Is Shane Long the best striker Spurs can sign given the market in January?
