Press reports in the UK are suggesting that the White Hart Lane club want the Argentine as their new boss….
The Transfer Bin is where all the most sensational, ludicrous and downright stupid transfer stories end up – with managerial speculation making its way to the scrap heap today.
Tottenham have recently replaced Andre Villas-Boas with Tim Sherwood, after a mediocre start to the new campaign.
However, despite the fact that the new man has only been in charge for two Premier League games and has an 18 month contract in place, the speculation continues over who will sit in the Spurs hotseat in the long term.
The Argentine has transformed the Vicente Calderon outfit into a real title challenger in La Liga, and has also spearheaded the side’s progression to the knockout rounds of the Champions League.
The report claims that despite the length of Sherwood’s contract, “doubts persist whether the former White Hart Lane player will survive that long”. It has been two games!
Anyway, the article continues by stating that Daniel Levy is “keeping tabs on Simeone” (watching Atletico’s results maybe?) and has installed the Argentine as his preference. This will apparently lead to a summer move for the Atletico boss.
With Simeone doing so well at Atletico, the chances of him leaving at the end of the season are decidedly slim. This fact is exacerbated by the fact that the combative midfielder played for the Spanish side for five years over two stints, and has repeated admitted his love for the club.
Atletico are major challengers for glory for the first time in 15 years, the fans love him and he has a young and talented team at his disposal.
If he was to leave Atletico on the crest of a wave, Simeone would surely have some of the top clubs in Europe after him. At the moment there are grave doubts whether Tottenham can make the Champions League, while Atletico look almost certain to be in it again next season.
The report smacks of desperation, and the likelihood of this actually happening is, well, quite far-fetched.
Rubbish rating: Just not going to happen
Can you see Simeone moving to Tottenham?
