Tottenham star admits surprise return to his homeland couldn't be ruled out

Lewis Holtby

Lewis Holtby has stated that he would like to return to the Bundesliga one day, and that English football was unpredictable.

Tottenham recorded a 3-0 win over Stoke on Sunday, with Lewis Holtby one of a number of players to miss the victory.

The Germany international has been alternated with Christian Eriksen as the club’s main playmaker, but has never had a concerted run of game since moving from Schalke in January.

Holtby has cast doubts over his future by admitting that the urge to return to his homeland lives within him.

“I would never rule out a return to the Bundesliga,” the attacking midfielder told Bild.

“Especially to Schalke, where I had a great time, even though it might have come across differently during my move a year ago.

“Things can happen very quickly. English football especially doesn’t sleep.”

It would be something of a surprise if Holtby left the club anytime soon, but every player in the Tottenham squad will have to prove themselves under new manager Tim Sherwood.
