Long-term Arsenal target linked - €5-€10m and 'this time, the transfer could go to completion’

Yoann Gourcuff France

Yoann Gourcuff has once again been linked with a move to Arsenal in French publication Le10Sport - but this time they would have us believe a deal is a real possibility.

Arsenal are reportedly interested, once again, in Lyon midfielder Yoann Gourcuff. Arsene Wenger is known to be a massive fan of the French international and has followed his progress for many a year. In the past the talented playmaker has gone elsewhere - with Lyon, Bordeaux and AC Milan previous beneficiaries in Arsenal’s failure…

But this time it is reported that The Emirates might just be about to welcome the French international playmaker.

Le10Sport reported yesterday that Wenger was ready to indulge himself in the signature of Gourcuff - and they even used the phrase ‘this time, the transfer could go to completion.’

Lyon are currently in the difficult process of trying to build a new stadium - and the arduous process has seen the former dominant force of French football haemorrhage money. With that in mind they desperately want to reduce their wage bill.

The 27-year-old was in talks with Lyon officials in October about extending his 2015 contract expiry by two years, but those talks hit a snag.

Club president Jean-Michel Aulas is desperate to trim his wages.

Gourcuff is rumoured to be on £90k-a-week in France - and he is not said to be willing to discuss a significant wage cut to stay at Lyon.

Gourcuff had an excellent start to the season - bagging the August goal of the month - but his performances seem to have plateaued since then.

However the report claims Wenger is aware of his innate qualities and is willing to gamble on him in a similar way to the deal that brought Tomas Rosicky to the club in 2006.

The report claims Lyon are very happy to begin negotiations to sell Gourcuff - and a fee between €5 and €10 million is being mooted.

In the summer it was even reported that Gourcuff would be willing to take a pay-cut if it meant getting a crack at the Premier League - with Aulas even stating this fact himself:

“All that I know, if I understood correctly, is that he was ready to lower his salary to go to Arsenal.”

Whether Arsenal need him or not is another debate entirely - but it certainly seems as though his name is going to be regularly linked with the club until the end of the month.

Could Arsenal finally sign Gourcuff? Do they even need him?
