Newcastle United eye Dutchman to replace Papiss Cisse

The Magpies have been linked with a move for Luuk De Jong of Borussia Monchengladbach.

Loic Remy has been the main man up front for Newcastle United this season. Without his goals it is safe to say that they would probably be struggling much lower down the table. Papiss Cisse hasn't produced the goods for over a year now, and he could be set for a move to Qatar.

The Newcastle Chronicle have reported that an unnamed Qatari club are chasing Cisse and have already had a £9 million bid rejected. Cisse is reportedly unhappy at his limited game time this season, but that is due to the fact he had a poor season last year, and now Loic Remy has cemented his place in the side. When Cisse arrived from Freiburg in January 2012 he scored 13 goals in 14 games that season. However since his superb introduction to the Premier League, he has struggled. He has only found the net nine times in a further 51 league appearances.

It is understood Newcastle United would be willing to let the Senegalese striker leave if they receive a better offer and if they can bring in a replacement. That replacement could well be Dutch international Luuk De Jong, a player who has been linked with a move to the Premier League many times before.

Again The Newcastle Chronicle have said that De Jong has issued a 'come and get me plea' to Newcastle and is hoping to complete a move this month. His club Borussia Monchengladbach are trying to encourage The Magpies to sign the striker on a permanent deal, but it is understood Alan Pardew wants him on a temporary deal first before deciding in the summer whether to go through with a permanent deal.

Despite impressing in his homeland for FC Twente, things haven't worked out for De Jong since his move to Monchengladbach in 2012. He has only played 85 minutes this season and isn't expecting things to change any time soon. Speaking about the fact he is unpopular with the manager he said: “I want to play longer than three to five minutes. It’s no fun. The coach does not give me the feeling that he continues he will build firmly around me. He does not talk much with me. It was a first half (of the season) to forget.

De Jong certainly looks set to move on from the Bundesliga side, but will Newcastle be able to get the deal they want?
