How this Liverpool trio voted in the Ballon d'Or

Steven Gerrard, Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel, as national team captains, all voted for who they believed was the best player in 2013

As a requirement of their captain duties for their respective national sides, Liverpool trio Steven Gerrard, Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel all had a major say in the destination of the 2013 Ballon d'Or, with Real Madrid and Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo the eventual winner.

Gerrard, as England skipper, correctly called Ronaldo as his first choice, with Lionel Messi second in his top three and Liverpool team-mate Luis Suarez finishing third.

Fellow Reds Daniel Agger, the Denmark captain, and Martin Skrtel, Slovakia's leader, also gave their views.

Agger list had Messi top of the tree, Ronaldo second and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who picked up the award for Goal of the Year at the ceremony, in third.

Skrtel, like his club captain, voted for Suarez, but this time had him at No.1, with Ronaldo and Messi rounding off the 29-year-old's trio.

Perhaps the most interesting thing to note from their selections was the absence of Franck Ribery, who considered the frontrunner until Ronaldo's devastating hat-trick against Ibrahimovic's Sweden in November sent Portugal to the World Cup at their hosts' expense.
