The German international took to social media to answer questions from fans tonight, mostly about Arsenal's title chances and to reminisce over his favourite goal he's scored for the club - this stunning volley against Montpellier in the Champions League, if you were interested.
But the tweet that got Arsenal tongues wagging was when a fan asked him a simple question - would the 28 year old rather retire from football or play for Arsenal's fierce rivals, Tottenham Hotspur? The answer may have been predictable, but it had his fanbase praising his name all over the website.
@whosuspendedme Retire.— Lukas-Podolski.com (@Podolski10) January 15, 2014
The revelation is somewhat ironic, given that not only are there reports that Podolski is unhappy at the Emirates Stadium, but speculation linked the former Bayern Munich man with a move across North London last summer - one which few players have done.
Given the abuse that Sol Campbell and Emmanuel Adebayor received having played for both teams, Podolski made the right decision to keep on the fan's good side and say he'd rather retire than play for their arch-enemy - even if he could be heading for the exit door in the near future.
Podolski also continued to poke fun at Spurs by suggesting he'd prefer Gornik Zabrze - who play in Podolski's home country of Poland - to Spurs, saying that "they are the better option".
@mitiapsc I pick the first choice - because it s the better one.— Lukas-Podolski.com (@Podolski10) January 15, 2014
Whether Podolski stays at Arsenal or departs in the near future, he is certainly a fans favourite and his attempts to wind up Spurs fans will only enhance that - even if it is unlikely he would ever have said anything else in response to such tweets.
