Manchester United latest: strike duo to miss Chelsea & Gundogan future 'open'

Rooney Warm Up

News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.

Manchester United take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

In team news, both Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney will miss the clash with the Blues this weekend.

"Wayne is not ready for Chelsea," said David Moyes.

"He has been doing some running and has done some strengthening work around his groin. I have watched him running today. He looks well. Overall we are pleased. We hope we can get him back as soon as we can but we don't want to put a date on it."

"I am hoping Robin might be able to start training next week," he added.

David Moyes reiterated Robin van Persie is settled at Old Trafford and dismissed speculation he could move this month.

"It couldn't be further from the truth," Moyes said about the claims, "I keep saying it is untrue but for some reason people don't want to write it or hear it."

"I have a really good relationship with Robin, as I do with all the players,” he added.

Moyes has been fined £8,000 by the FA over comments he made criticising referee Andre Mariner in the aftermath of United’s 2-1 defeat to Sunderland in the Capital One Cup. The boss has accepted the FA’s charge of misconduct for his comments.

Ahead of the clash, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho insists United are ‘still a danger’ despite a disappointing start to the season.

"Man United are Man United. Eleven points is a big gap but I believe they'll push all the way,” he insisted.

"We play against the champions. We play Manchester United, not a team 11 points behind the leaders.”

However, the Portuguese Blues boss has ‘no sympathy’ for David Moyes.

"There is no reason to have sympathy for Moyes," he said. "He has a fantastic job and is very stable.”

In transfer news, midfielder Anderson has undergone a medical with Fiorentina ahead of his proposed move to the Serie A side.

The Brazilian’s loan move has been confirmed by Fiorentina but United have yet to tie up a replacement for the midfielder.

Meanwhile, United target Ilkay Gundogan is ‘open’ to leaving Borussia Dortmund as the Premier League champions prepare to fight for the German international who is also linked with both La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

“I have not made a final decision on my future yet,” he told German newspaper Bild.

“Dortmund are the first team I am talking to. I will soon make a well-thought decision. But I am keeping my options open at this point.”
