Morgan Stanley on Thursday named 153 managing directors, a slight increase from the 144 employees awarded the senior title last year.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the new class of Managing Directors includes 41 women, or 27% of the total – the highest in the firm’s history, a Morgan Stanley spokesman said.

Bloomberg News reports that about 64% of those promoted work in the U.S., up from 50% last year, while 22 percent are based in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and 14 percent in Asia, according to Wesley McDade, a spokesman for the firm.

Almost half of the new class works in the investment banking and trading division, McDade said.
