Former Chelsea youth product Leroy Lita has become a target for Brian McDermott's Leeds United and Danny Wilson's Barnsley.

According to Sky Sports News sources, Leeds United and Barnsley are battling for the signature of Swansea City striker Leroy Lita.

The former Bristol City striker has been frozen out of the Swansea side ever since Michael Laudrup became manager at the start of last season.

29-year-old Lita did enjoy two decent loan spells in the Championship last season, scoring 3 in 10 for Birmingham and 7 in 17 for Sheffield Wednesday.

His most recent loan spell at Brighton and Hove Albion was however extremely disappointing, making just five substitution appearances in six weeks with the Seagulls and only netting one goal.

The former England U21 striker has only made six starts for Swansea since Brendan Rodgers paid £1.75 million for his services from Middlesbrough in 2011. He is now entering into the last six months of his contract, the players next move could shape his last move of his career.

The South West Evening Post today reported interest in Lita, as confirmed by Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins.

“There’s been a lot of interest in Leroy,” reported Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins.

“When he finds the right project for him, he will probably go out on loan again.”

Both Leeds United and Barnsley are in the market for new players and despite a disappointing stint at Brighton, Lita has proven he is  capable of getting goals at Championship level.
