Spanish paper lays into United and Arsenal target at Real Madrid - 'Charging about' 'Struggling'

Angel Di Maria

Spanish newspaper Marca has laid into Manchester United and Arsenal target Angel Di Maria.

Manchester United and Arsenal target Angel Di Maria continues to face attacks and criticism from the Spanish press as he goes about life at Real Madrid.

The Argentinian winger has been heavily criticised every time he fails to produce his best form, as a summer exit away from the Spanish giants looks more and more likely.

The problem he currently faces is that his main position in the Real Madrid team is taken up by the world class figures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, forcing Di Maria to adapt to new roles where he is less effective.

“So far, this transition (into a centrally based player) has proven a bit hit-and-miss. As a wide man, Di María is struggling to understand that in the middle of the park, the remit is to keep the ball, provide composure and defend through positioning rather than by charging about. His tactical awareness – a key factor in central midfield – is somewhat lacking,” reads part of the Marca report.

Carlo Ancelotti has always maintained his importance to the Real Madrid cause and his quality as a player, which seems to be why he’s trying to find a way into the side for Di Maria.

However, he’s not suited to playing through the middle and poor performances create frustration for himself and the club’s supporters who have already been on his back this season.

Di Maria is a winger and both Manchester United and Arsenal could use an addition in that area, maybe not now but a deal in the summer is more than possible after the World Cup.

If either side markets his potential wide role at their club well, it could be relatively straight forward process to talk him into a move and that’s undoubtedly Real Madrid’s loss.

Where do you think Angel Di Maria will end up?
