Earlier this week, we brought you the news that for €17million, you could buy Hernanes’ left foot.
At least that was the feeling of Lazio president Claudio Lotito, who was quoted in response to rumours of a bid for the midfielder from Serie A rivals Inter Milan.
Denying that any such offer was received, Lotito reportedly told Mediaset, “They can buy his left foot for that. We are talking about a player who is not for sale.”
Although he them tempered that somewhat by adding, “We are not looking for buyers, but if any offers do arrive we will evaluate them in that moment.”
Hernanes was linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United earlier this month, following reports in Italy that the player’s agent had travelled to England to hold talks with both clubs.
But it seems the most interest is now coming from Italy where, despite Lotito’s quotes, Sky Italia reports that the Brazilian is closing in on a move to Inter.
The story also claims Hernanes’ agent is now in the country to discuss a possible move; this despite the reported offer of around €13million being someway short of what it would apparently take to buy just part of the 28-year-old.
Only time will tell. But it seems a player once tipped for a spell in the Premier League may be staying a little closer to the place he currently calls home.
Would Hernanes be one that got away or do neither Spurs or United need him?
