Looking back, my Arsenal transfer being cancelled was the right choice - £23m star

Yohan Cabaye is delighted at the way his transfer eventually panned out.

Yohan Cabaye was by all accounts devastated to see Newcastle reject his transfer to Arsenal back in August.

The midfielder had to be left out of the club's opening game because he was subsequently not in the right frame of mind to play, and only truly began to settle once the summer transfer window was over.

After half a season of superb Premier League football, the French international finally sealed his dream move to champions Paris Saint-Germain yesterday.

Speaking about the move, Cabaye has admitted he was glad his move to Arsenal did not go through.

The Mirror report the midfielder stated: "It's true that there was an offer from Arsenal over the summer that was rejected and then the discussions stopped. There was interest there because they made Newcastle an offer for me but Newcastle decided not to accept it.

"That was their choice and at the start it was hard to take, but looking back on things and considering how we played in the subsequent six months, it was the right choice."

For Cabaye, Newcastle, PSG, and Arsenal, it appears everybody has won out of the circumstances.

If Arsenal pushed for the Frenchman and eventually convinced Newcastle to cave, then they likely would not have pursued the deadline day deal of Mesut Ozil.

Newcastle fans were treated to some of the best months of Cabaye's time at the club, including his memorable game winner at Manchester United, their first win at Old Trafford since 1972, and have received a sizeable fee for his departure.

Cabaye will get the chance to impress in his homeland and enhance his World Cup chances, and also get a chance to play Champions League football. His progress will be one to watch, and fans of Newcastle will no doubt look on proudly, if a little enviously.

Arsenal fans, are you glad Cabaye didn't join?
