European Manager Watch: Van Gaal 'not in talks' with Spurs, Koeman to leave Feyenoord

Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal insists he is not currently in talks with Tottenham and suggests retirement is a more likely possibility.

The big managerial news in Europe this weekend concerns two Dutchmen.

The first is Louis van Gaal, who is still being linked to Tottenham, despite Tim Sherwood's 18-month contract at White Hart Lane.

According to the 62-year-old, however, retirement seems a greater possibility.

"Am I in contact with Tottenham Hotspur? Not currently," he was quoted as saying by AD Sportwereld. "Basically, I will retire, unless a very great challenge comes along.

"I'm sick and tired of being the coach [of the Netherlands] after two years. I'll miss the eight times I can work with players but I'll have more time for others."

One wonders, though, if a huge war-chest from Daniel Levy and the objective of getting Spurs into the Champions League could be challenge enough to tempt Van Gaal to reconsider.

Meanwhile, one man more likely to take on a new role this summer is Ronald Koeman, who has this week announced that he is leaving current club Feyenoord at the end of the season.

"I've worked well working closely with the players, the staff and all the others here at the club. I've been enjoying myself here from day one. The decision not to sign [a new deal] is one that I've made purely by feeling," he told the club's official website.

"Feyenoord deserve to have certainty over their future. I'm working with the group to reach a beautiful end result and bring three fantastic years together to a close."

Koeman, who was famed for his thunderous free-kicks as a player, is leaving the Eredivisie club with his head held high, after three years of work that has generally been heralded as a success.

Feyenoord's technical director Marco van Geel was keen to praise his impact at the club and insisted there are no hard feelings ahead of his exit.

After managerial spells in Portugal, Spain and Netherlands, only the question of where next remains for the 50-year-old.
