Bologna forgot to pick new signing up at airport

Four Bologna directors face being sacked after nobody met deadline day signing Ibson Barreto da Silva at the airport.

Bologna's January transfer dealings were underwhelming and a bizarre gaffe led to new signing Ibson cooling his heels at the airport for several hours.

The Emilia-Romagna side face a battle to stay in Serie A but they only signed two players during the entire window.

The first addition was Swedish midfielder Erik Friberg, who arrived from Malmo, and the second was Brazilian midfielder Ibson.

The deal for Ibson was completed very late on deadline day with the paperwork being handed in just five minutes before the cut-off.

And that may be why Bologna completely forgot to send anyone to the airport to meet their new recruit, who was left waiting.

Club president Albano Guaraldi has reacted furiously to the error and possibly also to the lack of signings by suspending four directors.

Technical director Adriano Polenta, secretary general Luca Befani, communication chief Carlo Caliceti and marketing man Andrea Battacchi have been put on leave and could be sacked.

Is forgetting to pick a new signing up from airport the worst transfer gaffe ever?
