It was something of a surprise when an entire transfer window went by with Wesley Sneijder’s name barely mentioned. After all, he was akin to the rumour mill’s darling for many a year.
But now the Dutchman appears settled in Turkey with Galatasaray, and it seems he wants to settle a score with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
In quotes published by Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Sneijder is reported to have said, “We faced Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid in the Champions League last season and he emerged victorious. This time we want revenge on Mourinho and Chelsea.”
Sneijder was part of the Galatasaray side who gave the Spanish giants quite a shock last year.
After losing the first leg of the quarter-final 3-0 at the Bernabeu, and going 1-0 down at home after just eight minutes, the Turkish side scored three times through a host of familiar names – Emmanuel Eboue, Didier Drogba and Sneijder himself.
A late second from Cristiano Ronaldo ended the fight-back, but it seems Sneijder and his teammates have not forgotten that night. And they are apparently looking to get their revenge against the side Mourinho now oversees when the two clubs face each other later this month.
Will Chelsea triumph over Galatasaray in the last-16 of the Champions League?
