Croatia boss: Be patient with Inter's Man United target

Inter Milan

Inter midfielder Mateo Kovacic isn't having the best of times, but Croatia boss Niko Kovac believes he will keep getting better.

Young midfield talent Mateo Kovacic was singled out for blame by Walter Mazzarri after Inter's defeat against Juventus and dropped for the Sassuolo game, but he will still come good, Croatia's coach has insisted.

The 19-year-old was linked with Manchester United in the January transfer window and there were suggestions that there could be a swap deal with Inter involving Javier Hernandez moving the other way.

Some pundits suggest that Kovacic is one of Europe's most exciting rising talents, but he looked ill at ease in Inter's 3-1 Derby d'Italia defeat against Juventus when Andrea Pirlo got the better of him.

Inter boss Mazzarri had some harsh words for Kovacic after the game and the midfielder was left warming the bench as the Nerazzurri overcame Sassuolo 1-0.

But Croatia head coach Niko Kovac still believes Inter man Kovacic will justify his hype in future.

"He's only 19 years old - he's a young man and he wants to learn," Kovac told Sportske Novosti.

"Of course Kovacic's coach wants to help him grow even if he is also critical. However, in certain games, such as the Juventus match the responsibility has to be with the more mature players."

Should Man United keep tracking Mateo Kovacic?
