Sneijder: How Chelsea inadvertently helped snub United interest

The Galatasaray playmaker has revealed the reasons why he elected to remain in Turkey's Super Lig rather than join Manchester United.

Manchester United wanted to sign Wesley Sneijder, the Galatasaray star recently confirmed, but the Dutchman - who has won league titles in four different countries - decided to snub the reigning Premier League champions for a variety of reasons, chiefly: his ambitions in Turkey, his security and contentment at Galatasaray and his desire to get one over his former manager Jose Mourinho at Chelsea

'There were clubs who wanted to sign me like Manchester United but I have no intention of leaving and my club have no intention of letting me go,' said the 29-year-old, a fundamental part of Mourinho's famous treble-winners of Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League in 2010, said to Sporx.

'Leaving in January didn't even cross my mind and the club have never told me to leave. There is still a lot to achieve here… we are competing in the league, Turkish Cup and have a chance of beating Chelsea in the Champions League.

'I feel at home here and that's not something you feel everywhere you go.'

In Super Lig competition, Sneijder has returned eight goals and three assists from 15 appearances, while scoring twice in 358 minutes of Champions League competition.

Galatasaray host Chelsea in the first knockout round of Europe's premier club tournament on February 26 and, even though he enjoyed his best season when under the tutelage of Mourinho, he has vowed to exact revenge on the Portuguese for a 5-3 Champions League defeat suffered by Gala against Real Madrid - engineered by Mourinho.

Sneijder is quoted by the Express to have said earlier in the week: 'We faced Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid last season in the Champions League and Mourinho emerged victorious. This time we want to get our revenge on Mourinho and knock Chelsea out of the competition in the process.'

Will United fans forgive the snubbing if Sneijder helped knock Chelsea out of the competition?
