Bundesliga expert Jan Aage Fjortoft has suggested claims from FC Schalke over Julian Draxler shouldn't be believed.
Bundesliga expert Jan Aage Fjortoft has contradicted claims from FC Schalke’s chairman over the future of starlet Julian Draxler.
The £37 million rated attacking midfielder has been heavily linked with moves to Arsenal and Bayern Munich in the summer with Schalke chief Clemens Tonnies offering the Gunners hope with a very black and white view of the situation.
“I can rule that probability out 100 per cent,” he’s quoted by Bild when asked about the possibility of Draxler joining Bayern.
However, Fjortoft, a well-respected and connected personality within German football, has suggested that the statements coming out from of Schalke are ‘strategic’ and have no bearing on what will actually happen this summer.
“These statements are of strategic nature and have no relevance – I think Arsenal had a great interest in Draxler but Bayern have told him to understand; wait until the summer and we’ll see what happens,” reads a translation of Fjortoft’s quotes in Bild.
So how does the situation stand as far as Arsenal are concerned?
Bayern Munich are probably the only club that could stop him from moving to the Premier League so if there is real interest there then there’s very good reason for the Gunners to worry.
They can stop him from joining Arsenal because of the current status and profile of the club. They also represent a great chance for him to stay in the Bundesliga, turning himself into one of the next great players of German football.
Arsenal could trigger his buyout clause but convincing him that the Emirates is a better place for him to play his football than the Allianz Arena is a different challenge altogether.
Where do you think Draxler will move in the summer?
