'Why consider the idea?' - €25m Manchester United midfield solution going nowhere says mediator

Jedvaj Hazard Strootman

Kevin Strootman is clearly not leaving AS Roma this summer - despite interest from Manchester United.

It was recently reported that Manchester United failed in a €25 million bid for Kevin Strootman in January.

The response, according to La Roma 24, was short and sweet:

"For less than €40 million do not even sit down."

United boss Moyes was it seems looking for midfield reinforcements in the winter - but was not ready to lower the quality of his targets. It was players of Strootman’s ilk that warranted his keen interest - however it seems a deal was never truly on the cards.

The player’s agent Chiel Dekker stated recently:

"Kevin is very happy in Rome and his idea is to stay there for a long time. He is well, the club and the city he likes."

Sir Alex Ferguson was a known fan of Strootman - but a deal for the player could never be concluded as United and PSV Eindhoven failed to agree on the price of the Dutch international.

Amid rumours of an imminent AC Milan switch, AS Roma appeared to come from nowhere - and snapped up the talented player on a deal potentially worth up to €19 million in the summer of 2013.

He has since gone on to become a regular in Rudi Garcia’s excellent Roma side - and it appears that United’s new boss Moyes was happy to follow up Fergie’s prior interest in the player.

But if any hope still remained of his potential arrival in the summer they were shot down once again this week.

FIFA agent Fabio Parisi acted as the mediator between Dekker and Roma chief Walter Sabbatini in the summer - and remains in the loop over the player’s future.

And he was asked by TMW today what he thought about rumours over his future - and he gave short shrift:

“I think there is little to say. Kevin is well in Rome and I do not see why he should consider the idea of changing the city and the team."

Strootman then, it appears, is definitely going nowhere.

Who should Manchester United target in the summer?
