Liverpool have reportedly watched Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic for some time, yet a possible deal to bring him to Anfield was always going to be a difficult prospect.
Loved in Seville as one of their own, Rakitic has proven why he’s such a special player this season with a number of phenomenal displays. From a midfield position, the 25-year-old has contributed to 18 goals by means of goals and assists in 24 La Liga starts – a record well worthy of his reported €40m release clause.
The Croatian international’s contract is set to expire in 2015, yet he has provisionally extended that deal. The only stumbling block between the two parties is the decreasing of his current release clause, one which could be dropped significantly.
Liverpool stand little chance of signing the star for €40m, however, a new incentive has come to light and it might significantly boost the Reds’ chances.
The youngster is currently out on loan at La Liga battlers Almeria, and on a personal level, he is proving to be a fantastic prospect. His contract with Liverpool expires in the summer of 2015, and it has yet to be decided whether Liverpool intend to offer him a new deal.
In a recent interview conducted by the Spanish paper AS, Suso has admitted that he’d like to stay in La Liga beyond this season, as another season gaining first-team experience at this level could really help his development.
Despite ElDesmarque suggesting that negotiations between Suso, Liverpool and Sevilla are at an advanced stage, it’s worth noting that Brendan Rodgers holds the player in high esteem and wouldn’t allow him to leave in a deal which isn’t completely beneficial for the Reds. Even Suso says he has every intention of proving himself at Anfield.
Yet one solution which may work is the possibility of a loan deal for next season. For Liverpool it would be price worth paying to wait an extra year for Suso if it allowed them to sing Rakitic, who has also interested Manchester United and Barcelona.
If Liverpool really are serious about signing Rakitic, Suso could be used as an inducement to bring the Croatian superstar to Liverpool and line-up alongside the likes of Suarez and Coutinho, their ace in the pack. It could just be worth it.
Should Liverpool use Suso in an attempt to bring in Ivan Rakitic?
