Arsenal morning news: Giroud says what 'does not kill me makes me stronger'; Wenger contract snag

All the latest news and gossip from The Emirates Stadium this morning.

Manchester United are said to be interested in signing Arsenal club captain Thomas Vermaelen. David Moyes is looking for a replacement for the departing Nemanja Vidic - who is joining Inter Milan on a Bosman transfer in the summer.

Vermaelen’s future at The Emirates is in doubt as he has clearly lost his place in the starting XI to Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny - whom Arsene Wenger is reluctant to rotate.

United will reportedly cough up £12 million for the player if Arsenal are ready to talk on a potential deal.

Olivier Giroud came off the bench yesterday to put the final nails in the coffin of Everton’s FA Cup hopes - bagging two late goals in the tie.

And he spoke to French media after the game about a good day, and a tough month:

"Now, I want to forget about it, move on to something else. It was difficult to live, I had to be strong in the head. There were things that were true, others were false. But that's the past. Anything that does not kill me makes me stronger…”

Giroud has seen his personal life in the papers more than his professional life but he hopes to now kick on with The Gunners.

Arsenal are reportedly readying an £8 million bid for Loic Remy this summer.

The French international is currently on loan at Newcastle United from QPR and has a release clause of £8m in his current deal - which Arsenal will hope to activate before the Toon.

Wenger’s new contract at the club is reportedly being held up for now as the Frenchman is still negotiating over the clubs transfer policy.

He wants to retain full control over the buying and selling operations at the club and ensure the club stays away from hiring a director of football.

But it is a small snag - and he is reportedly set to sign a deal at the same time as his 1,000th game as Arsenal boss later this month.

Can Giroud fire Arsenal to glory?
