James Milner to Tottenham? Uncertainty likely to hold back such a move

Tottenham Pre Season WHL

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Manchester City midfielder James Milner in team rebuild, despite uncertainty over the managerial future.

The Daily Mail have reported Tottenham Hotspur are looking to rid themselves of the 'deadwood' left over from the reign of Andre Villa-Boas and build a side around young English talent.

Although its not unreasonable to think James Milner could be on the move in the summer, I highly doubt Tottenham would be the destination for the England midfielder. And even if he were, I am almost certain talks wouldn't be starting any time soon due to the uncertainty over the club's future.

Tottenham's embarrassing loss to Chelsea at the weekend only fuelled the fire that current Dutch manager Louis Van Gaal could replace Sherwood at the end of the season, or more importantly at the end of the World Cup.

Therefore, I don't believe Sherwood, or anyone at Tottenham will be looking at restructuring just yet, at least not before the issue of who the manager will be next season is sorted out once and for all.

Along with the managerial uncertainty, I believe it's unfair to label the players left by Andre Villa-Boas as 'deadwood' as a number of them are highly-rated experienced international footballers.

And in the case of Lamela, Soldado and a few others, it could be put down to their bedding-in issues with life in England. Which should be expected, even of the very top players.

I believe Tottenham already have better players in their midfield than James Milner and throwing any players out the first-team to accommodate the 28-year-old could result in the team becoming weaker, rather than stronger.

At the very least, until a manager is sorted out for next season, I can't see any viable transfer activity going on at White Hart Lane and that could have to wait until the World Cup is finished.

What do you think, could Milner join Tottenham in the summer?
