The 29-year-old defender has been a long-term transfer target for Spanish giants Barcelona, even though the prospects of him leaving the French capital this summer were always slim.
The Catalans were linked with the Brazilian whilst he was playing with AC Milan, but they were beaten to the punch by PSG as the Le Parisiens splashed out €42m for his services.
He has since spent the last two seasons dominating the French league, yet Barcelona’s interest has remained and following the looming departure of club legend Carles Puyol, a central defender has become a top priority for next season.
The former AC Milan defender has a contract with the French champions until 2018, and according to Sambafoot, Silva has reiterated his desire to see it out:
"I feel good, I feel valued by these things that come out in the press."
"I'm pleased, my work is being recognised, but I'm happy in Paris and I want to fulfil my contract."
Thiago Silva’s comments will obviously go down well at his current club, however for Chelsea, they could spell trouble.
Barcelona have also been linked with another Brazilian international centre-back – Chelsea’s David Luiz.
There were reports that the Catalans were close to bringing him to La Liga last summer, but unfortunately for the reigning La Liga champions, a reported formal bid was rejected and a deal never materialised.
Last summer’s failure to sign their man hasn’t stopped Barcelona’s interest throughout this season, and as a result of Thiago Silva’s desire to stay with PSG, Premier League leaders Chelsea may face relentless pressure to keep hold of their €30m-rated central defender this summer.
There's no doubt Luiz holds the characteristics which can see him thrive at Barcelona, it may all depend on whether Chelsea have a desire buy a top quality replacement or not.
Will David Luiz still be a Chelsea player next season?
