David Moyes 'loves' 29-goal striker sensation wanted by Chelsea

David Moyes Interview - 23/02/2014

Could Manchester United swoop for Diego Costa this summer ahead of Chelsea?

Diego Costa's future remains the centre of speculation thanks to his unprecedented season, in which he has truly stepped up to the next level.

As well as playing Champions League football for the first time in his career, he has blossomed in La Liga, netting a total of 29 goals this season, including a brace against AC Milan in midweek.

Chelsea and Arsenal have been routinely linked with his signature, and Manchester United's interest has been mooted too, touted by The Mail in January.

The Red Devils' interest exists likely on the basis that the newly registered Spaniard would be a replacement for Robin van Persie is sold, as has also been speculated in recent weeks.

Well United's potential interest has been handed added intrigue thanks to the claim of esteemed writer Andy Mitten, creator of long-standing fanzine United We Stand.

Mitten has just conducted an interview with former two-time United assistant Carlos Queiroz, now national coach of Iran, and claimed via Twitter that both the Portuguese and David Moyes are both very keen admirers of Diego Costa.

Perhaps it's a shame for United that Queiroz was not advising Sir Alex Ferguson two years ago, but Moyes' keen interest is certainly fascinating.

The Scotsman has been a guest on Mitten's UWS podcast as recently as last October, and his knowledge of the club is unrivalled.

However with Costa getting his first taste of Champions League football this season, and recently speaking about his enjoyment of it, when it comes to convincing him to sign, rival clubs like Chelsea are bound to have an ace in the pack.

Would Diego Costa be a perfect signing for Manchester United?
