Carragher: Everyone will want Manchester United in the next round

Champions League Trophy

Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher says Manchester United will be wanted by Europe's big guns in the next round of the Champions League.

Manchester United secured the result they needed against Olympiakos last night, winning 3-0 to progress to the Champions League quarter-finals.

But old foe Jamie Carragher, a tournament winner himself in 2005 with Liverpool, could not resist a dig at their expense.

The pundit told SkySports after United's victory that they would be the team that the remaining sides in the competition will welcome in Friday's draw.

He said: "You worry about them in the next round who they are going to come up against.

"Everyone will be hoping for United in the draw, I think so."

The options for the Red Devils don't sound very attractive, having made a meal of a two-legged tie against Olympiakos which was considered an 'easy' draw.

There are no inter-country restrictions, meaning United could draw Chelsea, while they will surely be desperate to avoid Real Madrid, Barcelona, or Bayern Munich.

Atletico Madrid, PSG, or Borussia Dortmund do not sound great either, perhaps Jurgen Klopp's side may be the least fearful on paper, but the Germans' run the the final last season illustrate their credentials.

As for whether any of those sides will want to face United, it's a fair point considering the level of the alternatives for each team; David Moyes' side has clear flaws which teams like Bayern Munich have the potential to ruthlessly exploit.

A trip to Old Trafford has held few fears for many teams this season, but United will hope this can be a turning point, and there may yet be a miracle twist in their season yet to come.

Which is the best draw for United? Will teams really want to land them?
