Manchester United striker Sergio Aguero was back in training on Thursday as he continues his road to recovery from a hamstring injury.
The 25-year-old Argentine remains the Citizens’ top goal scorer this term with 26 goals in all competitions, despite being sidelined through injury twice this term.
Aguero hasn’t featured for City in the Premier League since their 5-1 victory over Tottenham back in January. Prior to that he missed six weeks over the Christmas period with a calf injury.
However, good news for City boss Manuel Pellegrini is that his top striker is aiming to be back in contention to be selected against Arsenal this month.
The Citizens currently sit in fourth place in the table, six points behind leaders Chelsea with three games in hand worth 9 points. If they can claim maximum points from those games, they will be top of the table on track to win the title under the Chilean boss in his first term at the Etihad.
Aguero was injured in City’s defeat at Barcelona last week that rules him out of their clash with relegation candidates Fulham this weekend and he is unlikely to be fit in time for City’s visit to Old Trafford in the Manchester derby against United next Tuesday.
However, a good result against the Gunners in just over a week’s time would put City in poll position to go on and knock Chelsea off the top of the table – the West London Blues host the Gunners this Saturday in a showdown at Stamford Bridge that will undoubtedly play a crucial role in the title race.
With just 11 gams left for City to play this term, it’s a great boost for Pellegrini and the City faithful to have their star striker back just in time for the run in and the forward could be just the man to make the difference at the Emirates next Saturday.
Do you think Aguero return is the key to the title?
