Back in January, Arsenal were regularly linked with a move for Schalke starlet Julian Draxler, and while nothing came of those rumours, the Gunners were tipped to return with a summer bid for a player who has been making waves in the Bundesliga.
And then Bayern Munich's name was thrown into the hat, and the German giants suddenly looked favourites to take yet another German gem away from a domestic rival.
But Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge threw cold water on those claims when he said the following in an interview with Die Welt that was later published in the Guardian:
"We are not buying any player from Dortmund or Schalke just to hurt these clubs. We are just buying players who can give FC Bayern more quality straight away. I can rule out that we will sign Julian Draxler in the summer."
So there you have it. Arsenal now appear to have a clear (or at least clearer) run at Draxler should they wish to bring him to the Emirates Stadium. The only problem is Jan Aage Fjortoft, a former player turned journalist specialising in the Bundesliga, is not so sure that is the case.
Tweeting after the Bayern news broke, Fjortoft said Arsenal had apparently cooled their interest after scouting reports suggested Draxler could not be turned into a striker - something Arsene Wenger was tipped to do following similar success with Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie.
Fjortoft then went on to say that the most likely scenario was that Draxler would remain at Schalke for another season before moving to the reigning European champions in 2015.
Of course it remains speculation, but the former player has been right with previous reports, and given his age and Schalke's ongoing participation in the Champions League, it would be no surprise if Draxler remained exactly where he is for a while yet.

Most likely: Draxler will play another season at Schalke. Bayern will take him 2015. Pay some money upfront and seal the deal this summer— Jan Aage Fjortoft (@JanAageFjortoft) March 23, 2014
Who would you like Arsenal to move for if Draxler is no longer on their radar?
