Moyes says he's received 'great support' and is 'driven' to succeed

David Moyes Interview - 23/02/2014

David Moyes addressed the media ahead of Manchester United's game against Aston Villa in the Premier League at Old Trafford tomorrow

David Moyes has said he has received great support this week from Manchester United's fans after it has come to light that a group of fans have hired an aeroplane to display a message calling for the United manager to be removed from his position.

He added he is 'more driven than ever' to succeed at Manchester United after another difficult week for the Old Trafford boss.

United were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Manchester City in midweek which means they will finish with their lowest ever points total since the Premier League was formed, and Moyes appears to be under no allusions that results haven't been good enough in his first season in charge but has called for time to put things right at the club.

He told his pre-match press conference: "Everywhere I go, I get great support from Manchester United supporters.

"Results are what really matter. The business is results-driven and I’m keen to get those results to move up the table. I’m repeating myself but it’s actually not what I’ve been witnessing [any negativity]. I’m witnessing great support: the people I bump into outside the ground, Manchester United supporters.

"There are reasons. There's a new manager and everybody is well aware that there will have to be changes in the squad, and that will take time. People need to understand that it's not just going to happen overnight."

Regarding the derby day defeat to City, Moyes said: “We didn’t play well. The players are hurting like me and want to show it vs Villa."

"The players know exactly what it is to play for Manchester United - they know the standards they have to set.
