Julian Draxler in row with referee over video evidence use

Julian Draxler

Julian Draxler is not best pleased - believing he had a goal chalked off after it was viewed on a 'video-cube'.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Julian Draxler in recent months.

The German international, who has a reported release clause of £37 million, was heavily linked with a move to the club in January is also said to be attracting the attention of Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.

However the Bavarians recently ruled themselves out of a summer bid for the player - and now it seems Arsenal are the favourites to snap him up in the summer - if he decides to leave Gelsenkirchen.

On Friday he was in action against Eintracht Frankfurt - a game that the Royal Blues dominated and won comfortably, 2-0.

But for Draxler there was certainly a disappointing moment in the game - as he saw what would have been his second goal in the Bundesliga this season and his first since netting in November.

Schalke were already 1-0 up when Draxler smashed the ball underneath Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.

The goal was originally given - but referee Christian Dingert then decided to converse with his assistant on the matter - which is where the controversy comes in.

As while the two officials were chatting the goal came up on the massive ‘video cube’ in the centre of the pitch - which clearly showed Draxler in an offside position.

And Draxler believes that the referee only gave the decision after, for want of a better word, illegally using video technology.

He told the media this weekend:

"Suddenly, the referee raises his arm, because he probably recognized on the video cube my offside."

But in Germany, unlike Britain, the referee can actually talk to the media - and Dingert has, putting Draxler in his place as a consequence:

"My assistant saw from the sidelines basically an offside position and radioed to me. I ran to him and said that the ball was extended by a Schalke player to Julian Draxler, and then decided to offside. We have not assessed the situation on the video cube, we must not. "

What it matters I am not sure - Schalke won the game 2-0 and Draxler genuinely was offside.

It just seems this Draxler kid loves a good moan.

Is Draxler what Arsenal need?
