Whatever people think of Tottenham Hotspur’s season to date, one bright spark has been the arrival and subsequent form of Christian Eriksen.
The Danish play-maker has now found his feet at White Hart Lane, and what special feet they are.
But the 22-year-old has prompted headlines of a different sort after an interview he gave to De Telegraf about a man he knows well.
With considerable doubts over the long-term future of current Spurs boss Tim Sherwood, the name of Louis van Gaal is regularly mentioned as a potential replacement. But Eriksen’s recent comments have seen another manager’s name again linked with the reportedly soon-to-be-vacant hot seat.
When asked whether Ajax coach Frank de Boer would succeed in England, Eriksen is quoted as saying, “Whether Frank de Boer would do well in the Premier League? Well I think good coaches do it anywhere.
“I do not have a lot of contact with Frank, but our bond is always good. I have so many thanks to him.”
Eriksen knows De Boer well from his own days at the Dutch club, but with Sherwood’s future unsure, and with Van Gaal’s name now being linked with more clubs in England – namely Manchester United and Arsenal – it will be interesting to see just who is in charge of Spurs come August.
