Report – Southampton eyeing summer swoop for Arsenal’s FA Cup hero

Fabianski

Southampton are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal shot-stopper Lukasz Fabianksi this summer.

According to The Mirror, Southampton are eyeing up Arsenal’s out-of-contract star Lukasz Fabianski this summer as they bid to bolster their goalkeeping ranks.

The Polish international has been an Arsenal back-up for the majority of his stay in North London, although when called upon, he has always delivered top class performances.

It is a strange situation, and many feel the 28-year-old is far too good to be sitting on the bench twiddling his thumbs when it comes to match-day.

As a result of being Arsenal’s designated FA Cup goalkeeper, Fabianski was ultimately the hero for the Gunners as he saved two spot-kicks during their semi-final penalty shootout victory over Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

For a man out of contract and expected to leave this summer, it would be the perfect send-off should he depart as a FA Cup winner.

Reportedly interested party Southampton, however, already count on Polish shot-stopper Artur Boruc as their number one, though the 34-year-old is entering the twilight of his career and Southampton may be looking at Fabianski as a better long-term option.

Should the Saints wish to bring the highly-rated 'keeper to St. Mary’s, they will certainly face a fight for his signature with Celtic and a number of German clubs reportedly interested in signing him up.

Will Fabianski remain in the Premier League next season?
