Report – Liverpool set to reward youngster with new deal

Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling is set for a new bumper deal following his excellent form this season.

Liverpool’s young winger Raheem Sterling has been phenomenal of late, with many believing he is a frontrunner to win this season’s Premier League Young Player of the Year award.

The Reds have been an attacking force to be reckoned with this season, scoring 93 goals in 34 Premier League appearances as the hone in on a first title in 24 years.

Strike duo Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, dubbed SAS by the media, have taken the plaudits for firing Liverpool to the top, but they wouldn’t have had the success had it not been for the excellent supply line.

19-year-old Raheem Sterling has contributed heavily to Liverpool’s success, as shown in the Opta Stats table below.

In 29 Premier League appearances, the youngster has scored seven goals, creating in total 41 chances for his team.

Arguably his most impressive contribution is his ability to draw defenders out of position and create space for his teammates - demonstrated by his 74 successful dribbles.

Out of possession, Sterling has also proven to be hardworking and resilient, contributing to 133 ball recoveries.

His impressive performances this season certainly haven’t gone unnoticed by the Liverpool hierarchy, and according to The Mirror, the men at the top have decided to reward Sterling with a brand new bumper deal.

The flying winger’s original £30,000-a-week contract which expires in 2017 was only signed 18 months ago, though Liverpool are intent on showing their appreciation for the youngster’s efforts both on and off the pitch.

An outsider to make Roy Hodgson’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup, Sterling’s display against Manchester City in his recent outing would have done his chances no harm at all.
