Agent of 'discount' Arsenal target Janmaat confirms competition from Napoli

Arsenal target Daryl Janmaat’s agent has confirmed interest from Napoli - amongst others - but says no formal offers have arrived.

Right-back is expected to be an area of need for Arsenal this summer after years of stability with Bacary Sagna occupying the role.

The Frenchman looks no closer to signing a renewal on his expiring contract and a host of replacement options have been linked with the Emirates.

Feyenoord’s Daryl Janmaat has been tipped as a potential successor, and the Gunners’ path to singing him appeared to become clearer in the past weeks.

The 24-year-old’s terms at De Kuip expire in 2015 and a fortnight ago the Metro reported that talks over an extension had fallen on hard times.

This development appeared to pave the way for Arsenal to swoop for the highly-rated Netherlands international, possibly even at a discount.

But Janmaat’s agent has now warned of competition, confirming that Serie A giants Napoli have enquired about his client - along with others.

“I can confirm that Napoli are interested in the boy,” Karel Jansen told Italian radio programme Si Gonfia La Rete. “But they are not the only club who have asked for information.

“There are no official offers and Napoli are a great team.”

Recent reports have also listed Manchester City and Galatasaray forward as possible suitors, and it’s safe to say Janmaat has attracted significant attention.

If Arsenal see him as the best man to replace Sagna, acting quickly will be the best course of action.

Janmaat is expected to feature for the Netherlands at the World Cup this summer, and a good showing could see his price-tag increase in concert with widespread interest.

The Gunners would do well to wrap up a deal before Janmaat finds his way to Brazil to ward off competition, as his capture may not be as straightforward as it seemed just weeks ago.

The Dutchman may still be available for less than the £7m he’s previously been valued at, but it seems the longer Arsenal wait, the more they’ll need to pay to secure his services.

Should Arsenal act fast to beat the competition to Janmaat for the best price?
