Fabregas return to Arsenal could be on but at huge cost to Gunners

A Spanish newspaper has claimed Barcelona are looking at the possibility of signing Mesut Ozil.

Arsenal could be starring at their best ever chance of re-signing Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona.

However, it may cost them one of their best current players.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claims Barca are eyeing up a move for Arsenal’s record signing Mesut Ozil, with a €30 million deal being talked about in a report on the newspaper’s website.

“The technical secretary of FC Barcelona is following the current Arsenal player Mesut Özil intending to make an offer at the end of season. The German midfielder is very liked by Andoni Zubizarreta,” claims Mundo.

Fabregas was seen as the natural replacement for Xavi in the Barcelona midfield when he first re-signed for the club and he’s been well used by Tata Martino this season; nine goals and 19 assists across La Liga and the Champions League.

As unlikely as Barcelona’s apparent move for Ozil is, should it happen then it could force Fabregas to consider a future away from the Nou Camp to gain and enjoy the status he clearly deserves.

Arsenal have first option on Fabregas should Barcelona ever sell him and needless to say if they have just lost Ozil, the appeal in taking Fabregas back to the Emirates Stadium will be huge.

The Spaniard has never hidden his feelings towards the Gunners, maintaining a positive relationship with the club’s officials and fans despite switching allegiances at an important time in Arsenal’s development.

He would definitely add quality and more importantly leadership in the Arsenal midfield, with the latter certainly missing from the middle of Arsenal’s team at times this season.

His quality in terms of protecting the ball and creating chances for other players is second to none in European football and although Arsenal are well stocked in terms of central midfielders, there will always be a place for Fabregas in their midfield.

To get him back this Mundo report needs to be very accurate, which is unlikely considering the ridiculous fee which has been suggested and the fact that Ozil isn’t a bad player.

Do you think Fabregas will ever end up back at Arsenal?
