Chelsea shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois is enjoying yet another fruitful spell in the Spanish capital with La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid.
The 21-year-old Belgian international is in line to win the prestigious Zamora trophy awarded to the goalkeeper who has conceded the least amount of La Liga goals over the season.
The Blues loanee in fact won the same trophy last season, and his progress in Spain certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Throughout the season, he has been at the centre of a tug of war between Atletico Madrid and Chelsea regarding his future, with speculation even linking him with a move to giants Real Madrid.
Whilst the youngster’s future remains uncertain, as a result of Chelsea’s stance to remain with current number one Petr Cech, Spanish press Diario Sport have now linked Barcelona with a move.
The Catalans goalkeeping situation is currently a mess, with Victor Valdes injured – and presumably leaving this summer – and number two Pinto contemplating his future away from the club. German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is widely tipped to move to the Nou Camp this summer, but the fans have their eyes firmly fixed upon Courtois.
In a recent poll conducted by Diario Sport, a whopping 95% want Barcelona to sign the Blues’ shot-stopper – 50% more than in a recent poll posing the same question about Brazilian international David Luiz.
With a number of Barcelona fringe players possibly heading for the exit doors this summer, money would presumably not be an issue for the Catalan club should they make Courtois their number one summer transfer target.
It’s believed that Jose Mourinho’s side would not be willing to sell their youngster, but if he can’t stake a claim for the Chelsea number one jersey in the near future, in Courtois’ own words; a solution must be resolved – and could that be with a move to Barcelona?
Should Chelsea contemplate a big-money offer from Barcelona for Courtois?
