Dutch source De Telegraaf is said to want Toni Kroos at Old Trafford next season.
Yesterday morning was hectic in regards to rumours from Holland suggesting Louis Van Gaal had ‘agreed terms’ with the club over a three-year-deal and a £100 million transfer kitty.
It came after reputable Dutch source De Telegraaf claimed the Glazers and Ed Woodward had thrashed out a deal with the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona coach at his Portuguese villa - and despite denials by United yesterday it looks increasingly as if LVG will become the new United boss.
Today most of the Sunday papers agree that the Dutch national coach will take over at the club after the World Cup in Brazil this summer - and now De Telegraaf are at it again.
They are talking about the players United could bring in under Van Gaal - and believe his number one target will be Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos.
The German international was already on the radar prior to Moyes’ sacking and the player himself is out of contract next summer.
His agent was said to be at Old Trafford yesterday as United beat Norwich City 4-0 and, despite it being claimed that he will not be leaving the club until 2015, the lure of Van Gaal might prove too difficult to refuse.
Kroos and Van Gaal have a previous working relationship - in fact it was the Dutchman who brought him into the Bayern Munich first-team as a regular back in 2010.
Kroos, believed to be valued at around £40 million by the Bundesliga champions, would be a welcome sight at Old Trafford.
A very similar player to the legendary Paul Scholes - he would offer the type of ball-playing midfield option that they have missed since Scholes retired for good in the summer.
Whether he will leave Bayern this summer remains to be seen - but Van Gaal is said to want him, and considering their previous working relationship it looks as though he might just get him.
Would Kroos be your number one target?
