Will Luis Enrique block Cesc Fabregas' Arsenal return?

Former Barcelona player Luis Enrique is being tipped to replace Tata Martino at the Nou Camp next season.

Former Barcelona first team star and B team coach Luis Enrique has become the latest linked with replacing Tata Martino at the Nou Camp this summer.

The 43-year-old Spaniard has given a collective 11-years of his life to the Spanish club and should he be rewarded with the top job, as several reports are suggesting then it could be bad news for Arsenal.

As the summer transfer window draws ever closer, the idea that Cesc Fabregas could leave the Spanish club is being discussed on a seemingly daily basis.

Fabregas, the natural replacement for Barcelona legend Xavi, has endured a frustrating season under Martino, played out of position and unable to force his way into Xavi’s position.

Seven of his La Liga appearances have been as a substitute while 13 of the games he has started have seen him taken off by Martino.

Fabregas has also been booed by Barcelona supporters for his performances this season, as recently as the victory over Athletic Bilbao last month.

Luis Enrique is seemingly being lined up for the job because of his Barcelona history and his past.

He has very recent experience of playing in the Barcelona first team and could opt to use Fabregas in his best position, potentially giving him a chance to nail down a place ahead of Xavi who is likely to play less as he gets older.

It’s also unlikely that Enrique will want any major departures from his first team squad until he’s had a good chance to watch everyone play and assess the situation, which makes Fabregas’ departure even more unlikely.

Under Martino, Fabregas has been used in a variety of different roles in Barca’s midfield and attack.

He’s been pushed to either side of the midfield and has looked lost at times playing false number nine role, which has seen him fighting all of his basic urges to drop into the midfield to pick up possession.

If any side makes a formal offer for Fabregas, Arsenal have first option to match that offer and re-sign him. However, Enrique could be the man that finally gives Cesc what he wants, a shot at Xavi’s position in the side.

Where do you think Fabregas will be playing next season?
