Fabio Coentrao is set to sign a new deal with Real Madrid.
Manchester United have plenty of planning to do ahead of next season. The club need to rebuild after a woeful season and positions all over the field need to be addressed.
One such area looks like being at left-back.
Patrice Evra is out of contract in the summer and as things stand it looks increasingly likely that the Frenchman will exit the club in the summer for a fresh challenge.
With the unimpressive Alex Buttner the only man in reserve - it seems a left-back will be recruited in the summer.
One such player is Luke Shaw of Southampton - but a more experienced head who is consistently linked with a switch to Old Trafford is Fabio Coentrao.
The Portuguese international is currently an in-and-out player at Real Madrid - and has also been linked with moves back to Benfica or to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.
United are considered the favourites - but it doesn’t look like it will matter now - as he is set to sign a new deal at Real Madrid.
El Confidencial report that Florentino Perez is thrashing out a new deal with the player’s agent Jorge Mendes as Carlo Ancelotti grows tired of Brazilian international Marcelo’s constant stream of injury problems and general lack of fitness.
Coentrao has been in decent form over the past month or so and Ancelotti is not as keen on letting him go as Mourinho was during his time at the Bernabeu.
It seems therefore that Coentrao is off the menu - and United can cross him off their left-back shopping list.
Is Coentrao a miss for United?
